STEM Lores is a small family of YouTube channels and a website about how we found out what we know in mathematics, physics and chemistry. Each video starts from a story — a question someone asked, a measurement that did not fit, a number that kept turning up — and then shows the idea itself, step by step.
Who makes it
STEM Lores is made by Nguyen, a parent in Singapore. It started as something for my lovely daughter: the stories I wanted her to hear about where ideas come from. I prepared it for her, and I hope it is useful to every curious kid (and grown-up) who watches.
The channels
- Math Lore — The stories behind the numbers. YouTube @mathlore
- Physics Lore — The story behind every law of nature. YouTube @physicslore
- Chemistry Lore — The stories inside the elements. YouTube @chemistrylore
Every public video has a written story on this site, with its sources: all stories. We also make a free Rubik’s Cube Coach for young learners.
How the videos are made
- Animation is made with code. Diagrams, graphs, simulations and proofs are drawn by programs, not filmed or hand-animated.
- The narrator is synthetic. Every voice you hear is text-to-speech, not a human recording, and each video description says so.
- AI helps with drafting. An AI language model helps draft outlines and the animation code. A person decides what is published.
- Facts are checked against sources. Before a video is published, a person checks every number, date, name and quote on screen and in the narration against the brief and its sources, and listens to the narration for mispronounced words.
- Music comes from free-licence artists (Creative Commons or public domain), such as Kevin MacLeod and Scott Buckley, and each track is credited in the video’s description.
Corrections
We fix mistakes. If a fact in a published video turns out to be wrong, we correct the video and upload the fixed version, take the incorrect version down (set it to private), and update the written story and the links on this site. To report a mistake, see Contact.
